Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at Mississippi State University, where he teaches political theory. His research to date has focused on the political significance of work in capitalism, as well as on migration and borders. His work has been published in Constellations and New Political Science. James’s book manuscript (in progress), Beyond the Work Society: Rethinking Freedom and Community, argues that paid work acts as a core governing strategy of neoliberalism, and that in the name of freedom and justice we need to liberate the idea of social contribution from paid work. His work on migration more directly addresses biopolitics, with particular reference to Roberto Esposito and Gilles Deleuze. James is also working on a project with Amy Mallory-Kani (Asst. Professor, English, Mississippi State University) on the relationship between affirmative biopolitics and new materialism.
