Leandro Menezes, researcher of our network, has published the book “Power and sexual representations in ancient Greece: body, life and uses of pleasure” (original title: Poder e representações da sexualidade na Grécia Antiga Corpo, vida e os usos dos prazeres ), in the publisher Novas Edições Acadêmicas (Brazil). In this study assumes the objective of analyzing the power relations and representations of sexuality in Ancient Greece, using the primary documents and the theoretical propositions of scholars such as Michel Foucault, Friedrich Nietzsche and Pierre Vernant. The research focuses on the various notions about love and relationships with sex built by Greek thought of the archaic and classical period, incorporated in the mythological narratives and philosophical literature of the time. It is proposed to reflect on the meanings attributed to sexual experiences, to the relationship with the body and with pleasure, with emphasis on Dionysian practices.
